  4. Download the QR code as PNG or SVG
  5. Print it and place it on tables, walls, or business cards

How do I create a QR code for my menu?

Creating a QR code for your menu is simple:

  1. Log in to your MenuMog dashboard
  2. Go to My Menus and select the menu you want to create a QR code for
  3. Click on the menu to open it
  4. Scroll to the QR Code section
  5. Click Download QR Code to get a high-resolution image

The QR code is automatically generated for your menu. You don't need to create it manually or use any third-party tools. Once your menu is created, the QR code is ready to use.

What file format should I download for printing?

MenuMog offers two formats for QR codes:

  • PNG (recommended for printing): High-resolution raster image perfect for printing on table tents, posters, or business cards. Use this for physical materials.
  • SVG (for digital use): Scalable vector format that looks sharp at any size. Great for websites, emails, or digital displays.

For most restaurant use cases, download the PNG format. It's optimized for printing and will look crisp on physical materials. The default size is 2000x2000 pixels, which is more than enough for any print job.

Do customers need to download an app to scan the QR code?

No, absolutely not. That's one of the best things about MenuMog QR codes.

Modern smartphones (iPhone and Android) have built-in QR code scanners in their camera apps. Customers simply:

  1. Open their phone's camera app
  2. Point it at the QR code
  3. Tap the notification that appears
  4. Your menu opens instantly in their browser

No app downloads, no account creation, no friction. Just scan and view. This is why QR code menus became so popular—they're the easiest way for customers to access your menu.

Where should I place QR codes in my restaurant?

Strategic placement is key to getting customers to scan your QR code:

  • On every table: Table tents or small stands work best. Make sure the QR code is clearly visible and at eye level.
  • At the entrance: Place a larger QR code near the host stand or entrance so customers can view the menu while waiting.
  • At the bar: If you have a bar area, place QR codes on the bar counter or on drink menus.
  • On business cards: Include a small QR code on your business cards so customers can access your menu later.
  • On windows: For takeout or walk-up service, place QR codes on windows or doors.

The key is visibility and convenience. Make it easy for customers to find and scan the code without having to ask staff.

What size should I print my QR code?

QR code size depends on where you're placing it:

  • Table tents: 2-3 inches (5-7.5 cm) square is perfect. Large enough to scan easily, small enough to not dominate the table.
  • Wall posters: 4-6 inches (10-15 cm) square works well for larger displays.
  • Business cards: 0.75-1 inch (2-2.5 cm) square is sufficient for small formats.
  • Window displays: 6-8 inches (15-20 cm) square for visibility from outside.

The most important thing is that the QR code is scannable. As a general rule, make sure it's at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) square. The QR code from MenuMog is high-resolution, so it will look sharp at any size.

Do I need to create a new QR code when I update my menu?

No, you don't. This is one of the biggest advantages of digital menus.

Your QR code always points to the same URL, but that URL shows your current menu. When you update prices, add items, or change descriptions in your MenuMog dashboard, those changes appear instantly for anyone who scans the QR code.

You only need to print the QR code once. After that, you can update your menu as often as you want without reprinting anything. This saves time, money, and paper.

Pro tip: Print your QR codes on durable materials (like acrylic or laminated cardstock) since you'll be using them long-term.

Can I use the same QR code for multiple menus?

Each menu in MenuMog has its own unique QR code. If you have multiple menus (like a lunch menu and a dinner menu, or a drinks menu), you'll get a separate QR code for each one.

This is useful because:

  • You can place different QR codes in different areas (lunch menu QR at lunch tables, dinner menu QR in the dining room)
  • You can create specialized menus (drinks menu QR at the bar, dessert menu QR on dessert tables)
  • Each menu can have its own schedule (breakfast menu shows in the morning, lunch menu at noon, etc.)

If you want customers to access all your menus from one QR code, you can create a "main menu" that links to all your other menus, or use the menu scheduling feature to show different items at different times.

What if a customer's phone can't scan the QR code?

While most modern smartphones can scan QR codes natively, there are a few backup options:

  • Direct link: Every menu has a short, shareable URL (like menumog.com/view/abc123). You can print this URL below the QR code so customers can type it manually if needed.
  • Third-party apps: If a phone's camera doesn't support QR scanning, customers can download a free QR scanner app from the App Store or Google Play.
  • Staff assistance: Your staff can help customers access the menu by sharing the direct link or helping them scan.

In practice, this is rarely an issue. Over 95% of customers can scan QR codes with their phone's built-in camera. For the small percentage that can't, the direct link is a simple backup.

How do I test if my QR code works?

Testing your QR code is easy:

  1. Download the QR code from your MenuMog dashboard
  2. Open it on your computer or print a test copy
  3. Use your phone's camera app to scan it
  4. Verify that your menu opens correctly
  5. Check that all items, prices, and images display properly

You can also test the direct link by copying the menu URL from your dashboard and opening it in a browser. This is a good way to verify the menu looks good on mobile devices before printing QR codes.

Pro tip: Test the QR code from different angles and distances to make sure it scans easily. If it's hard to scan, you might need to print it larger or ensure better lighting.

Can I customize the QR code design?

MenuMog QR codes include your logo in the center, making them branded and professional. The QR code itself uses standard black and white colors for maximum compatibility and scanability.

While you can't change the colors or add custom designs to the QR code itself (this would break scanning), you can:

  • Add your branding around the QR code when printing (your restaurant name, tagline, or instructions)
  • Use branded table tent designs that incorporate the QR code
  • Create custom frames or borders around the QR code in your print materials

The QR code with logo is designed to be professional and scannable. Focus your customization efforts on the materials you print it on rather than the QR code itself.

How do QR code menus work with daily specials?

QR code menus work seamlessly with MenuMog's daily specials feature:

  • When you schedule a daily special in your dashboard, it automatically appears on the menu that customers see when they scan the QR code
  • Special prices and highlighted items update automatically based on your schedule
  • No need to update the QR code or reprint anything—the same QR code shows today's specials

For example, if you set up "Taco Tuesday" specials, customers scanning your QR code on Tuesday will see the taco specials automatically. On Wednesday, those specials disappear and Wednesday's specials appear instead.

This is one of the biggest advantages of digital menus: your QR code stays the same, but the content updates automatically based on your schedule.

Is there a limit to how many times a QR code can be scanned?

No, there's no limit. Your QR code can be scanned unlimited times by unlimited customers.

QR codes don't "run out" or expire. They're just a visual representation of a URL. Every time someone scans it, their phone opens that URL in a browser. There's no tracking, no counting, no limits.

This means you can:

  • Print as many copies as you want (one for every table, multiple locations, etc.)
  • Share the QR code online (social media, website, email)
  • Use it for years without any issues

The only thing that matters is that your menu URL stays active, which it will as long as your MenuMog account is active.

Pro Tips

  • Print extras: Always print a few extra QR codes. Tables get messy, things get lost, and it's easier to have backups ready.
  • Use durable materials: Since you won't be reprinting often, use quality materials like acrylic, laminated cardstock, or waterproof paper.
  • Add instructions: Include simple text like "Scan with your phone camera" below the QR code for customers who aren't familiar with QR codes.
  • Test lighting: Make sure QR codes are visible in your restaurant's lighting. Dark restaurants might need brighter table tents.
  • Keep it clean: QR codes need to be scannable. Keep them clean and replace them if they get damaged or dirty.
  • Include the URL: Print the short menu URL below the QR code as a backup for customers who can't scan.
